What Adobe announced
On 10 August 2020, Adobe announced that development of PhoneGap and PhoneGap Build would end. PhoneGap Build was scheduled to become unavailable on 1 October 2020. Customers were instructed to retrieve stored files before that date. The announcement distinguished the open-source PhoneGap code from the proprietary hosted Build service.
Adobe pointed developers toward Apache Cordova for local builds and described other migration options. It warned that retired PhoneGap tooling would gradually diverge from newer operating systems and Cordova releases.

What happened to Cordova?
The Apache Cordova community published its own response on 14 August 2020. It explained that Cordova was a community-maintained open-source project and that PhoneGap’s closure did not itself end Cordova. The projects shared history and code, but their stewardship and product scope were different.
